The private cloud versus public cloud debate is heating up, as updated research on the adoption of each sheds light on the direction of cloud computing.
RightScale's annual State of the Cloud Survey indicates that while the private cloud currently leads in workloads, public cloud leads in enterprise adoption with 88 percent of organizations using public cloud compared to 63 percent who are using private cloud.
What's more, the study found that private cloud adoption is expected to stall in 2015 with only small changes in adoption. This may be because numerous industry experts are reiterating that the public cloud has a better cost advantage and better availability. Finally, enterprises continue to flock to Amazon Web Services (AWS), accounting for 57 percent of those using the public cloud, followed by Azure IaaS at 12 percent.
