News broke this week that the makers of Candy Crush Saga, a mobile game developed by Midasplayer International Holding Co. (also known as "King") has hired banks to pursue a U.S. initial public offering.
I won't go into the details of why I think it's ridiculous that anyone would consider investing in a, what so far is a one-hit wonder game maker (strikingly similar to Zynga), but it does reveal just how popular and potentially lucrative the games market is right now.
If you're thinking about creating the next Candy Crush Saga, you might want to check out Lobster, a new open source programming language targeting game programmers. Lobster is built on top of OpenGL, SDL 2 and FreeType and looks quite familiar to Python (indentation based syntax with "C-Style" flavoring).
Lobster comes with a built-in library ideal for making both games and graphics, and the games can be run on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Linux and Android.
