Amazon acquired gaming studio Double Helix games this week in a likely effort to strengthen its game-related offerings.
Irvine, California-based Double Helix is best known for its hit Xbox One game Killer Instinct (see screenshot below), but was formed back in 2007 with the merger of two other game development companies - Collective Inc. and Shiny Entertainment - and as such has a range of experience developing popular game titles.
The acquisition of Double Helix is fueling speculation among the digerati that the Internet retailer/technology platform is planning to launch its own gaming and entertainment device (or expand its existing offerings) and is working aggressively with developers already with its Amazon Game Studios.
