Research from IDC reveals that the revenue for the collaborative applications market was $7.6 billion in 2009. The top three vendors which include Microsoft, IBM, and Cisco accounted for over 55 percent of the market total. This might just be the opportunity you've been looking for - but you better get started.
"A large portion of collaborative applications market players showed revenue declines in 2009 from 2008. However, those companies with some of the largest year-over-year growth came from the emerging social platforms submarket," says Erin Traudt, research director for IDC's Enterprise Collaboration and Social Solutions program.
Count on the collaborative application market making a rebound in 2010. It would be wise to explore these opportunities in every capacity. IDC's Traudt continued, "key submarkets such as social platforms, conferencing applications, and team collaborative applications (TCAs) are helping to sustain the market as customers continue to benefit from the enhanced productivity and lower costs associated with these solutions."
