Twitter is adding new functionality to its social network, as the company announced support for animated GIFs earlier this week.
The announcement came in form of a tweet from Twitter's official support handle, which simply stated that users can now share and view animated GIFs on Twitter.com, Android devices and iPhones. Although not a huge update to the social network, the support of GIFs is good news for brands, as these animated pieces of content are likely to receive more engagement from followers.
It is also important to note that Twitter's support for GIFs follows Pinterest's announcement earlier this year, when the pin-boarding social network unveiled support for GIFs on its Web platform.
