Statistics show most merchants assume chargebacks are simply a cost of doing business. Nearly half of all merchants believe fraud is inevitable and 44% think it costs too much to control fraud. Merchants are also discouraged by the low success rate of those who do choose to confront the issue. Credit card associations estimate less than 21% of chargeback disputes are found in the merchant's favor. That means a lot of effort goes into the representment process, and a positive ROI is rarely, if ever, achieved.
