Time to Give Tableau a Go?

Written by Peter Devereaux | Jan 2, 2014 6:00:00 AM

Data visualization platform Tableau, which benefitted from a well-over one billion dollar IPO in early 2013, made available version 8.1 of its system in mid-November 2013, introducing new features which will be appealing to enterprise users seeking more sophisticated analytics and greater interactivity.

This version of Tableau, for example, integrates with "R" (an open-source collection of functions, libraries and packages that can be used for visual statistical analysis), is more "enterprise ready" than ever before thanks to the entire product suite now being offered in in both 64- and 32-bit, and offers up much more sophistication in its analytics product in general with one-click box-and-whisker plots, the ability to forecast with confidence levels, and new rank and percentile functions.

"Tableau 8.1 delivers many features and enhancements that our customers have been asking for," said Chris Stolte, Chief Development Officer and co-founder of Tableau Software. "We are focused on making analytics fast, easy and beautiful, whether you're an individual user or deploying analytics to the entire enterprise."

Tableau is quickly proving to be one of the essential tools in big data science for enterprises. Is version 8.1 a sign that it's time give Tabeleau a go? Share your thoughts by commenting below.
