There was a time in digital history when press releases were a common and very effective tactic for Internet marketers, not just as a way to raise awareness but also as a means to provide a significant link building boost in search engine optimization campaigns.
Today, the SEO benefits are somewhat negligible, but press releases do provide some benefit in certain circumstances. When the conditions are right to distribute a press release through the wire, knowing which service is best will serve your enterprise well.
Business software review platform G2Crowd recently released its first report on press release distribution services, ranking six products that Internet marketers should likely consider in their selection process. Of the 25 vendors listed in the PR distribution category at G2Crowd, the ranked products each received 10 or more review to qualify for inclusion.
Cision, Business Wire and PR Newswire were named Leaders in the report by G2Crowd users, receiving strong customer satisfaction scores with a large market presence. PR Underground was named a High Performer, earning strong customer satisfaction marks with smaller market presence scores. Cision earned the highest overall satisfaction score.
Across all providers, reviewers reported the product they use meets their requirements at an average rate of 86 percent, and on average reviewers said they were 80 percent likely to recommend the product they use.
The reviewers did note the often high expense of press release distribution tools, even if they had relatively large budgets. However, those same products also offer a span of distribution and audience targeting that relatively smaller services don't according to the G2Crowd report. Users also indicated they wished they could get a greater return on investment, especially in terms of targeting specific audiences.
