Data from Synergy Research Group indicates that Amazon Web Services (AWS) is dominating the cloud computing market, accounting for 45 percent of the revenue generated by public infrastructure as a service (IaaS) providers.
AWS is so big in fact, that if you were to combine the next three largest vendors (Microsoft, Google, and IBM), Amazon would still be larger.
Synergy also found that AWS leads in the platform-as-a-service (PaaS) market as well, though by a slimmer margin. Only in the smaller realm of the managed private cloud does AWS yield to market-leader IBM.
Some second-tier companies, including Alibaba in IaaS and Oracle in PaaS, are seeing strong cloud computing growth according to the report.
Last quarter, AWS's revenue of was over $3.2 billion. Amazon looks to be on track to do about $12 billion in revenue on AWS this year.
