Germany dominated this year's World Cup - not only with its winning team but also on the 'Net.
Compuware APM (application performance management), for those who have not read our previous coverage, is a provider of solutions to monitor cloud, mobile, Web, enterprise and big data applications. The application monitoring company watched the performance of Internet broadcasting sites that were covering the championship game and found that Germany once again defeated the competition.
During the final match, Compuware monitored broadcasters from Argentina (TyC Sports and El TreceTV), the U.S. (ESPN, ABC and Univision) as well as Germany (ZDF and ARD). They found that Germany's broadcasters did the best job optimizing their websites for the huge influx of users while Argentina's broadcasters did the worst.
Germany optimized their sites in a number of ways including limiting the amount of objects on the page. This resulted in a smaller amount of information that needed to be loaded by each user thus decreasing how long it took it took for their users to load their site.
"It is clear that German-based broadcasters did quite a bit of pre-match preparation. They optimized their sites ahead of time so they would withstand the pressure of a peak event, when massive numbers of viewers would be looking for information concurrently," said David Jones, field technical evangelist director, Compuware APM.
