Amazon Prime isn't the only member-benefits program on the 'Net.
Electronics retailer Newegg recently launched a similar program this month called Premier and its release is encouraging to other merchants looking to compete against Amazon more forcefully. Newegg's offering costs $49.99 annually and provides free three-day shopping, discounts on expedited shopping, exclusive deals and free returns without stocking fees (see image).
"We always seek ways to improve the customer experience and implementing a benefit program is the latest example of how we're making it easier and more rewarding to shop at Newegg.com," said Soren Mills, chief marketing officer of Newegg North America in a statement. "Free expedited shipping is in itself a great benefit, but beyond that we're including many other perks to enhance the shopping experience."
In comparison, Amazon's Prime service includes free two-day shipping for eligible purchases, access to Amazon Instant Video and the ability to borrow books from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library for $79 a year.
For a limited time, Newegg customers can get a free 30-day trial and 100 Eggpoints, which can be redeemed on future purchases.
