Verisign, the official registry of the .COM domain name extension, recently announced that the total number of .com domains has passed 129 million for the first time.
Growth of .COM has slowed considerably over the years but does continue to grow. The total number of .COMs in the domain name base (active and inactive) passed 127 million for the first time in May 2016 and 128 million in September 2016, for example, indicating a slow but steady rise over the past 24 months.
One of the reasons for the somewhat slower growth than in previous years is undoubtedly the introduction of the new top-level domains. Website Magazine's July issue takes a closer look at the new top level domains and provides Web professionals and digital companies some guidance to capitalize on the markets uncertainty.
