The introduction of the new generic top-level domains is, if not important to the digital ecosystem, at least interesting to keep tabs on. Let's take a look at a few of the more interesting developments in the domain name space from the past few weeks.
+ New York City's top-level domain (.NYC), which launched in October 2014, has experienced steady growth. There are now over 61,000 .NYC registrations, second only to .Berlin when it comes to city-specific domain name extensions.

+ .Realtor exploded on to the domain scene in October, and now counts over 87,000 registrations. The extension, which is overseen by the National Association of Realtors, is being given away free - at least the first 500,000 - for the first year. That should raise awareness of the new gTLD's and give some credibility to the idea that there is much more to the Web than just the traditional .com extension.
+ Three new gTLD's entered their general availability phase this week, including .Paris, .Moscow and .Gal (which is actually used to highlight Galacia (a region in Spain) and its language and culture. .Paris, which only made 10,000 domain names available) secured just over 6,800 registrations. .Moscow did not fare as well, counting just over 2400 registrations so far. As you might imagine, .Gal fared the worse with just 1,100 registrations.
